DISTANCE
EDUCATION
We
live in such a society where the life style is very
complicated and busy. Hence it becomes very difficult
for a student to devote much time. Distance Education
has started gaining popularity due to its simplicity
and effectiveness for imparting quality education at
your door steps. Learning from open schools and Distance
Education has become a trend in youngsters and also
for the learners of diverse age groups. Institute alone
cannot handle the vast population of learners very effectively
as Distance Education can very well do.
Situated
at a distance of 70 Km North-West of Delhi on the National
Highway No.10, Maharshi Dayanand University is spread
over a sprawling 740 acres of land on the outskirts
of the historic city of Rohtak.
The University named after the great saint, scholar
and social reformer Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati, was
established in 1976 under an Act of the State Legislature.
The University was initially started as residential
University for promoting study and reseach in Life Sciences.
The character of the University was soon changed to
that of an "affiliating University". This
was nessitated by the then prevailing circumstances
and needs of the area. From a modest beginning with
12 affiliated colleges, the University has bloomed into
one of the largest Universities in the country today.
It has in its fold 125 colleges and institutes and institutes.
These include 68 traditional, 1 Medical, 2 Dental, 3
Ayurvedic, 18 Engineering and 15 Education colleges,
besides it has 15 institute of Science, Technology and
Management. On the Campus, the University maintains
27 full-fledged Teaching Departments apart from one
Postgraduate Regional Center at Rewari. With this infrastructure,
the University has approximately 1.6 Lac students on
its roll in regular courses. Further Directorate of
Distance Education is imparting education to more than
50,000 students through its study centers spread all
over the country.
Allahabad Agricultural Institute
was established in 1910 as a department of Allahabad
Christian College. In 1911, the Agriculture and Technical
Department of the College were shifted across the jamuna
River from allahabad. In April 1913, the Agriculture
and Technical Department were bifurcated from the Arts
and Science Department of the Christian College.
On February
1st 1919, the school was re-christened as the Allahabad
Agricultural Institute providing a wider scope of expansion,
development and broad based educational management.
In order
to obtain more academic freedom and to strengthen the
specialized programme of teaching research and extension,
a proposal was submitted to the Ministry of Human Resource
Development, Govt.of India on 31st August, 1994 for
granting the Deemed University Status, University Grants
Commission visited the institute. It was encouraging
to learn about the report submitted by the visiting
team to the commission that the institute has all infrastructural
and academic means for granting the deemed university
status.
It was on
July 29th 1997 that the meeting of the full commission
was held at UGC, and it recommended finally to the Ministry
of Human Resources Development, Govt.of India, for issuance
of notification for the Deemed University status to
Allahabad Agricultural Institute.
On March
15,2000, Dr. Murli Manohar Joshi, Minister of HRD, Govt.of
India, approved the recommended of the Unversity Grants
Commission to declare Allahabad Agricultural Institute
as Deemed Unversity. The Government issued the notification
No.F.9-26/94-U.3. dated March 15, 2000 on the same,day
as approved by the Honble Minister.
